CSMC – Central Sanctioning and monitoring Committee has approved 10 new water projects for the city of Chennai. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 27,114,11 Lakhs. The central government will bear 35% of the cost, the state government 35%, and the balance will be sourced from FIs & others.
The new water supply
schemes will cover Pallikarani, Chinnasekkadu, Puzhal, Surapattu, Puthagaram,
Kathirvedu, Vadaperumabakkam, Theeyambakkam, Edayanchavadi, Sadayankuppam,
Kadapakkam, Palavakkam, Mugalivakkam, Manali, Kottivakkam and Perungudi.
Presently, bore-wells
are the main source of water in these areas and the existing distribution are
quite old and need repairs.
The project aims to
improve the quality and quantity of service, water metering, reduction in
leakages and energy consumption and enhancement in customer satisfaction and
revenues to water supply organizations.
