Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr C Vijayabhaskar, who inaugurated the scheme and launched websites for medical colleges on Friday, said TN was the first state to take up e-governance in health sector so effectively.

The HMIS application has two parts — a health management system and a management information scheme. The health management system will include records on patient registration, diagnosis and hospital related services. “Each patient will be given a patient identification number (PIN). Doctors can source a patient’s medical history using the PIN,” said GH dean Dr V Kanagasabai.

Under the management information scheme, service records of about 35,000 people working in 95 medical institutions across the state will be digitised. “The software is ready. Once the systems are installed, the digitisation process will begin,” said the dean. TNN  The state government on Friday increased the share capital of the National Minorities Finance and Development Corporation (NMFDC) by 1 crore. The corporation advances loans for business ventures undertaken by Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and other minorities.
