The number of subsidized LPG cylinder allowed per year has been raised from 9 to 12. This has been approved in the recent meeting conducted by the group of Central Ministers. Based on Congress party Vice-president Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s recent recommendation, the central government decided to increase this quota.
This comes into effect from 1st February, 2014. As per Mr. Veerappa Moily, the Petroleum Minister, this would entail additional burden of Rs. 80,000/- Crores to the government. The scheme to use Aadhar cards for this subsidy has been postponed.
