The Tamil Nadu State Government will demand faster clearance from the Centre for the Washermenpet-Tiruvottriyur Metro Rail corridor, besides taking up a detailed project report for Phase II of the project in newly identified corridors.

The Governor while delivering his customary address in the State Assembly said, “the Metro Rail work was progressing well and so far, Rs 3,060.74 crore has been extended by the government for the project as share capital and subordinate debt, besides Rs 3,864.83 crore from the Japan International Cooperative Agency.”

Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail project is necessary for maximum utilisation of the scheme aimed at traffic de-congestion and enhanced connectivity.
