In the recent days, talks about Aadhar card are widespread among the people. The Aadhar card number is a national identification number distributed by the central government. As of now, in Tamil Nadu, 35,91,589 Aadhar cards have been distributed. Speaking to the joint director of census operations, MRV Rao, he stated that the first step for Aadhar card distribution commenced during 2010. During this year, census was taken all over India. Details including the names of family members, address, details of the individuals, etc were collected. Further to this, a database was created containing all these details and now, the photographs, fingerprints, iris, etc are scanned and saved. These processes are referred to as the biometric process. These are being carried out all over the state currently.
The current status is 6,74,18,169 individual’s database are registered out of which the biometric tasks are done for 4,85,15,187 individuals. And, Aadhar cards are distributed to over 4,35,91,589 individuals.
