In order to control the crimes against women in public transport, the transport department has placed its order for all call taxi and Omni bus drivers to induct GPS equipment in their vehicles.
The transport department will soon be
setting up the control room for monitoring the taxis, after getting the
approval from the central government.Nearly around 25,000 cabs and 600 Omni
buses have been tailing across the city.
Once the vehicle got fitted with the
GPS, the screen in the control room will get the name of the vehicle owner,
driver and the vehicle registration number. In case of any complains on any
particular taxi, then the vehicle will be tracked from a control room and quick
action will be taken, officials stated.
For public ease, all the call taxi
should have the display boards with the name of the driver, owner and the
license number.Managements from IT and BPO Companies will be highly benefited
by this approach, as they can have a track of the vehicle in which their staffs
are boarding during late nights.
Alternatively, GPS can be installed in
the driver’s mobile which can affordable at low cost, suggested by Afzal,
Managing Director of Praveen Travels.
