In convention, summer peeps out only by the month of May. But, this is slowly changing. Stacks of watermelons by side of major roads affirm this too. The fruit is usually associated with summer and quenches thirst on sunny days. The fruit has more fan followers for its rejuvenating formula!
Watermelon has its season between April and May. However, the fruit sellers state that these fruits have started arriving the market a bit earlier than usual. Speaking to one of the watermelon sellers, he stated that the sale of these fruits usually commence by end of March or beginning of April. And because of its high pricing, they would bring them from Andhra Pradesh, he added.
Generally, by the month of April, as mangoes are preferred to watermelon due to which sale of the latter would be dull. And so, this year, the shopkeepers have started watermelon sale earlier. Besides, too much heat is yet another reason for bringing them into the market earlier. To add, melons are priced at Rs 15/kg.
