IT companies have advised women to leave the work place early two weeks after a TCS employee was found murdered in the city.
A copy of the email reads, “Please don’t move out of your office without office bus or cab. Can’t imagine it all (referring to the murder of Uma Maheswari) happened 200m from our main gate. This is really serious and sensitive.”
An employee from Cognizant said that now everyone had to inform security about going home. Some HR managers say the arrangement of sending women employees home may not be good for gender equality since most of the important work happens in these offices late in the evening when their clients in other time zones start work. Police have also taken safety measures. “We have cleared the bushes in Siruseri. We have also deployed a 24x7 patrol team that will work in three shifts,” said inspector general of police, north, M N Manjunatha. Police have also written to software companies to light up dark spots and put up fences around land abutting OMR.
