The Highways Department has initiated the construction of a Rs. 8-crore three-lane bridge across Cooum River. Main reason behind this commencement is to reduce the congestion on the Poonamallee High Road and this bridge connects Aminjikarai and Anna Nagar.

As of now, there are about 2 bridges including old three lane complex lintel bridge, and a 3-lane bridge framed recently; New Bridge will be accomplished in about 18 months, stated by the highway officials.

We received the work order for the 60m long bridge in February; and speeding up our work in order to complete the project within a year, whispered highway officials.

The old bridge has a weak structure and surely it will be annihilated in future and replaced by a four-lane bridge. Currently, the projected structure is the fragment of a superior blueprint in order to simplify the traffic between Koyambedu to Chennai Central, as both were the key entry points in the city which might be visited by Lakhs of people every day.

In the interim, a meticulous project report is underway to get its permission from CMRL. This project is for building an elevated corridor on Poonamallee High Road anticipated to function nearly 7km and across various junctions from Rajah Muthiah Salai near Ripon Buildings to Pulla Reddy Avenue in Aminjikarai.
