Several banks are yet to abide the instructions of the Chennai City Police in imparting safety measures in the ATM centers in the city.

After the event of the brutal assault on a woman inside an ATM in Bangalore by an armed man, police stressed on the safety measures to the bank officials.

The police officials have held up the meeting with the bank officials during December, last year and insisting them to follow few steps in improving the security for the customers.

Meeting constitutes few vital safety measuring steps which include: recruiting physically fit men as security guards, installing CCTV cameras in the frontal and removing stickers on the glass panes.

However, many banks behaves callously, as there are several ATMs that have glass panes completely covered with ad stickers for advertising the loans and deposit schemes offered by them, making the glass panes almost opaque.

We will again handle another meeting with the bank officials urging the implementation of the safety measures. As the police have no legal powers to force and coerce the banks to take the safety steps, we can only try to sensitize the bank officials and management about the security aspects, says the higher the official of the Police department.
