Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be conducted this April.
There are some special features for this election that
will surprise the voters.
There is a facility for the voter to check whether he has
rightly selected the candidate of his choice. This facility has been introduced
as per the Supreme Court Order and will be tested during this election in some
polling booths.
As soon as the voter selects the candidate, there will be
a print out which gives the name and other details of the candidate chosen.
This will help the voter to verify whether he has voted for the candidate as
per his choice. This facility ensures that the voter has picked the right choice
before voting. This will also reduce irregularities in the voting system and
also help better monitoring.
Another facility introduced is known as ‘NOTA’. Being
introduced for the first time, this will enable the voter to register the
choice that there is no candidate to be voted.
In the voting machine, after the list of all candidates,
the choice ‘NOTA’ (None Of The Above) will be available meaning that that voter
does not want to vote for none of the listed candidates. This will be
registered by pressing the ‘NOTA’ button.
This facility was introduced during the recent Assembly
elections conducted in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, and Mizoram. It
is now introduced for the parliamentary election.
Another facility introduced is the device ‘Election
monitoring reporter’. Distribution of alcohol or money or excessive election
expenses can be detected by this device. It will register the time of the
offence, place of offence, and the photograph of the offender and send the
details to the nearest Election Commission Monitoring Official’s location. This
functions on Android technology.
The central government has appointed the election
monitoring officers (supervisors). They will monitor the election expenses of
the candidates. This detail will be published in the newspapers. This will
enable the public to approach the offenders easily.
Online facilities are available for the
candidates to register their candidature application and the affidavits.
Another feature in this election is that transgenders have
been allowed to vote.
81.40 Crore people will be voting this election with all
the above facilities!
