The Foot over-bridges are glimpsed as crucial to the city to enhance road safety. Nearly about five foot over bridges has been finished by the end of next week, across various parts of the city.
The projects have been furnished under the World Bank Funded Tamil Nadu
Urban Development Phase III Project, at an approximate figure of about Rs. 28
Crores.
It wraps,
Two on Grand Southern Trunk Road: one near MEPZ and another near
Chromepet Government Hospital.
Two on Taramani Link Road: One near Perungudi and another in Baby Nagar,
Velachery.
Last one on the Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, in close proximity to the SBOA
School in Anna Nagar.
These over-bridges along with the escalators will be amicable to the populace only after the cessation of the election, said a senior highways department official.
This project will definitely be a great boon to the pedestrians, states an official from the highways metro wing.
Of the project runs, around 3 Crores have been placed aside for maintenance works including electricity costs, salary for operators and cleaners for the first three years, said the official.
The escalators will be operated with high sensors. They will not function during long phases of idleness. But when somebody comes nearby, it will start functioning automatically, the official added.
