All central government offices in Tamil Nadu will be closed on April 14 and 24, according to a press release. April 14 is a holiday to mark the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, while April 24 is polling day in the state. The state labour department has directed all industrial and commercial establishments to grant a paid holiday on April 24. This is applicable to all staff, including daily wage, casual and contract workers. The Election Commission has directed district collectors to not hold the weekly market (Sandhai) on polling day.
