Ambiguities in RTI Act –Delaying and Snubbing Information

The officials in many government departments are reaping ill repute for their action on their vague replies for the public queries and flouting the covers on their table under the Right to Information Act.

The RTI Act has been commenced in order to promote lucidity amid the government departments. But its part of division is getting tainted, for example the agency of the RTI Act has failed to bring in the information on the proof regarding the reformations of the department of personnel and administration, as it may upset its monotonous work.

As per the section 7(9) of the RTI Act, Figures shall usually be afforded in the shape in which it is required except it would excessively deflect the capital of the public power or would be injurious to the well being or safeguarding the record in query.

Among the 15 zones in the Chennai Corporation, Seven zones always found themselves in the defaulters list of providing information and this list includes Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Valasaravakkam.

For nearly all the PIOs, the staff scarcity, lack of accounts and stress from higher executives, are desired single outs from their lake of reasons to delay and deny information under the RTI act.
