Just as breeze comes in with rain, so do mosquitoes. Residents from parts of Chennai are scared of thronging mosquitoes into houses. Having been receiving intermittent rainfall in the past three days, the city is left with increased mosquitoes in houses and roadsides. Those residing along puddles find it tougher to tackle the mosquito menace. Complains are on the rise from people residing in T.Nagar, Choolaimedu, Tiruvotriyur, Kilpauk, etc.
Speaking to a resident of Tiruvottiyur, he says there is always been mammoth number of mosquitoes in the area and that the recent showers have increased their levels even more. If these places are left as it is, it would serve to be the best source for those little killers to breed, he added.
President of Indian Public Health Association, Tamil Nadu, S. Elango says heavy rainfall would help destroy eggs and larva, but the sporadic pattern of rain is making the condition worse. It will leave stagnant water for couple of days which is more than enough for mosquitoes to breed.
