New MRTS station to open today

Mundakakanni Amman Koil station, between Thirumailai and Light House on Chennai Beach-Velachery section of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) line will be open to traffic from Wednesday. Work on the 20 crore station began in 2008 and was completed early last year but the opening was delayed after a row over its name.
 
The first train will be a Velacherry-Beach service at 6 am after which regular services will continue. Residents of Loganathan Colony, Subburayan Street and a few others along with hundreds of pilgrims to the Mundakakanni Amman temple will benefit. A booking clerk will be available at the station, the 18th on the line, to issue tickets. It will cost 5 to travel to different stations on the line from here.
 
The first EMU leaving Chennai Beach at 4.10 am will arrive here at 4.28 am on week days and on Sundays, the first EMU leaving Beach at 6 am will arrive here at 6.18 am. On week days, the first EMU leaving Velachery will arrive here at 5.20 am, and on Sundays, the first EMU leaving Velachery will arrive here at 7.10 am. On week days, the last EMU leaving Chennai Beach at 10 pm will arrive here at 10.18 pm, while on Sundays the last EMU from Chennai Beach will arrive here at 10.18 pm. On week days, the last EMU leaving Velachery at 11 pm will arrive here at 11.20 pm, and on Sundays the last EMU train from Velachery will arrive here at 11.20 pm. The booking office will function during operation of all services on the section.
