Amma Weekly fair’ set to start soon in Chennai City!

Every ward in Chennai City under Chennai Corporation is set to start Amma weekly fairs.

Chennai Corporation has met with huge success by running the very popular ‘Amma Canteens’.

Following this, Chennai City Mayor, Mr. Saidai Duraiswamy has announced that ‘Amma Weekly fairs are set to start in each ward in a short period.

The plan is to start these fairs in 2 months. Progress is under full swing. Chennai Corporation is involved in choosing the places for conducting the Amma Weekly Fair. Details of all the built property owned by Chennai Corporation, other open spaces owned by it, playgrounds and others are being taken.

Amma Weekly fairs will be participated by sales from Women’s self-help groups, products created by jail prisoners, products from government institutions, vegetables, grocery items, and consumer durable items.

Councillors are not involved in the selection of places where Amma Weekly fair will be conducted. Corporation officials & private consultants are involved. All efforts are being taken to enure success in Amma Weekly Fairs as in the case of Amma Canteens.

Just like Amma Weekly fair, plans are consideration to open evening fairs in playgrounds. These will be open from 6 Pm to 10 PM on all Saturdays and Sundays.

Details such as who should be allowed in the fair, the system for issue of licence to participate, and the methods for selling various products at the most economical prices are being gathered for taking decisions.

Plans are afoot to include sales of footwear and clothing items.
