The southwest Monsoon is likely to set over the Kerala state on June 5. The normal date of Monsoon hitting the mainland over Kerala is June 1.
The IMD forecast comes with an error of plus or minus four days. Rains had actually arrived in the state on June 1 last year though IMD had forecast the arrival for June 3.
The Met department has been issuing operational forecasts for the date of onset of Monsoon over Kerala using an indigenously developed statistical model since 2005.
