Suburban trains were delayed by more than two hours after a power failure on Beach-Tambaram route at 4pm on Friday. Two trains were cancelled.
A senior railway official said trains had to be held up as there were no signals. Services were restored at around 6pm.
The disruption and delay affected evening peak hour commuters who had to take other modes of transport to reach their homes.
