Chennaites may no longer have to jostle for space inside a narrow subway or hop across the busy main road to reach Central railway station. Metro rail has started building a foot over-bridge from the station to the other side of Poonamallee High Road. The bridge is being built across the main road so that people will be able to cross the road without having to come in the way of traffic in front of the railway station. More than 2.5lakh people use Central railway station every day.

Hundreds of commuters who want to access Park Town MRTS station and Park station on the suburban line on the other side of the road can take the bridge because they may not be able to use a subway in front of the Moore Market Complex as the metro rail work progresses.
