South-west monsoon rains in 48 hours! Meteorological Board

Chennai Meteorological Board has announced that south-west monsoon will commence in 48 hours.

Even though the summer was severe especially during the ‘kathiri veyil’ period, sporadic summer rains brought some relief from the heat.

Chennai Meteorological Centre Director, Mr. Ramanan informed that the first rains of south-west monsoon will start in 48 hours.

It was announced that there would be rains in South Arabian Bay, Maldives, and some places in Tamil Nadu following the onset of south-west monsoon.

As the symptom for the onset of the south-west monsoon, there have been intermittent rains in Kanyakumari District.  The climate has changed. There has been rain Nagercoil from the morning. The major water reservoirs of the district, Pechipparai, Perunchani, etc have received good rains to the great relief of the local farmers.

Pechipparai dam was closed on 1st June due to rains. It is expected that the average rainfall would be much better than the last 4 years.
