NORTH EAST TRADE EXPO-2010 STARTS ON FRIDAY.

North East Trade Expo-2010 aimed to help the crafts in their quest to improve their lives will be conducted in Kamarajar Arangam in Chennai from 26th March,10. The exhibition would be open for nine days. The fair is organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. More than 100 craftsmen from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. Will show case their crafts .Live demonstration of select few crafts will be done on the premises. D C Borkotoky, The general Manager , North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation said that the objectives of such expos is to provide Market exposure to the crafts persons, create awareness  and sale of Handicrafts and to avoid middlemen. The hand woven fabrics with symbolic ornamentation of Assam; the tribal ornaments made from cane, bamboo, glass beads, silver as well as the carpets using dragon, geometric and floral motifs of Arunachal Pradesh; toys and dolls made of straw and clay, the most functional Laishingfee (quilted cotton materials) and  Kauna Grass cushions and mattress of Manipur;  ENDI silk weaving and pine apple fiber articles of Meghalaya; bamboo artistic cap of Mizoram; colorful tribal weaves as well as wooden handicrafts basketry items and Naga spear of Nagaland; and cane and bamboo creations from Tripura are on show in the exhibition.
