Lt Gen B K Chengapa has taken over charge as General Officer Commanding,
South India Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala and Karnataka on Thursday from
Major General Nitin Kohli,
who has officiating as GOC for the last ten months. This is the first Lt
General is appointed GOC for South India. Lt
Gen Chengapa reasoned that geographically south is very strategic with
important defense establishments function in South besides South India holds
one third of Indias land mass. He also said that there were 5.5 laths
ex-servicemen in South India, who have to be
taken care of. Maj Gen Nitin Kohli will be Chief of Staff, South. Lt Gen
Chengapa is 1971 commissioned officer, participated in Indo pak war-1971 and
served in Siachen Glacier apart from many other important assignments.
