Kalaignar Karunanidhi felicitated Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo group of Hospitals on the conferment of Padma Vibhushan. In a function held here Chief Minister said that Apollo Hospitals had become synonymous with the word ‘Hospital’ and the name Apollo had become symbol of modern healthcare in India. The Chief Minister further said that Tamilnadu was forerunner in Telemedicine and in delivering tertiary healthcare to poor people. S Gandhiselvan the Union Minister for Health, who participated in the function , said that health tourism was becoming significant that it has attracted more than 3 lakh patients from all over the world every year and had earned Rs 10000 Crore in foreign Exchange. Dr Reddy in his acceptance speech said that the Apollo Hospital started 27 years ago in Chennai would build its 100th hospital in Chennai in the next seven years. The hospital would also look at increasingly engaging in medical education and in the “last mile of healthcare” by establishing hospitals for the needy poor. Dr. Reddy further said that Apollo was founded on the principles of providing the cost effective treatment to the patients   through the best doctors and nurses, the best technology and would provide care and compassion to patients and focus would be on preventive health.
