Chennai Corporation proposed to run 32 residential schools with the intention of providing top-quality education for more than 5,000 students from the nearby slum areas.
The existing higher secondary schools will be facilitated with an additional floor for the purpose of boarding.
On Friday, the Chennai Corporation teachers have organized a parent’s meet with the civic officials to settle down the list of students recipients.
Within the period of three weeks, four corporation schools will commence the free residential classes. By the mid July, Chennai Corporation higher secondary schools at Pulla Avenue, Subbarayan Street and Saidapet will launch the residential courses. Based on the suggestions from the meeting which is going to be conducted on Friday, the rest of 28 schools will starts its proposals, said an official of Chennai Corporation.
Various amenitities like separate services for boys and girls, presenting nutritious food, valuable learning materials and excellent teaching support will be given by the civic body.

Even though the way of teaching has been augmented in all schools, the education of the students staying in the slum areas is badly affected because of their socio-economic circumstances and crowded surroundings. Residential schools will proffer the favorable circumstances to learn, said the officials from the Chennai Corporation School.
