Massive cleanliness drive by southern railways

Southern Railway is undertaking a massive cleanliness drive in railway premises, including railway stations, and on trains.
Shri R. Mohan Raja, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division inspected the premises of Chennai Central railway station today (20.06.2014) and directed the station officials to make all out efforts to improve cleanliness. He also advised provision of more space on platforms for the passengers to move freely with their luggage. Platforms, concourse area and the circulating area should be cleaned properly and there should be visible improvement in the cleanliness of these places, he added. This drive will also strive to create awareness among passengers, educate them not to litter and drive home the point that their cooperation is vital in maintaining cleanliness at railway stations and on board trains.
He also appealed to the rail users in general and passengers in particular to cooperate with the Railways in creating and maintaining a clean environment and better working atmosphere which will help passengers in maintaining their health and ensure pleasant train journeys. Moreover, those littering in station premises will be levied a fine of Rs.200 as per extant railway rules.
During the inspection, Dr. Varaprasad, Chief Medical Superintendent,Smt. G. Gayatri, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Shri. Kamalakar Reddy,Senior Divisional Engineer of Chennai Division also emphasized the need for cleanliness in work spots, office premises and surrounding areas.
Moreover, Shri R. Mohan Raja, inaugurated a Special Art Exhibition on cleanliness put up by the students of Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School, Perambur. Over 200 students distributed pamphlets and staged a rally at Chennai Central railway station, highlighting important aspects that would help improve cleanliness. A short, humorous skit was performed by railway staff in the station premises urging the rail users to cooperate in keeping railway stations and trains clean.
