It is planned to install solar power generation plants of 7 kW capacities each in the various government offices in Tamil Nadu such as the offices of district collectors, local administration, etc. The project will cost Rs. 21 Crores.
Senior officials of the Tamil Nadu Fuel Energy Development Board informed:
At an estimated cost of Rs. 1 Lakh per kW, a budget of of Rs. 21 Crores is planned for installation of 2100 kW. 50% subsidy is expected from the central government. Tenders will be floated during November to be finalised immediately so the the project can start by March next year.
The project has been based on the solar power generation plant installed in Kattankolathur in Kancheepuram District.
The solar power from the project will be connected to the main grid and energy consumption will be calculated with a 2-way energy meter. There will be a facility to calculate the electric power generated.
