A national institution for ageing will be formed for the senior citizens in Chennai at a cost of Rs.150 Crores.
Higher education in dentistry and a research facility is also planned to be located in AIMMS, New Delhi or Chennai.
The budget speech has mentioned about the formation of National Institute for ageing to be located in AIMMS, New Delhi and Madras Medical College, Chennai.
There is a ward for treatment of the senior citizens in Chennai Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital. Also, there are 10 beds allotted in each hospital located in the District Headquarters. As per the request from the Tamil Nadu government, it is decided that a Nattional Institute for ageing will be formed in Chennai.
The institutes will be located in KK Nagar, Chennai and will have 200 beds at a cost of Rs. 180 Crores. The facility will have treatment for TB and heart diseases. Research will also be undertaken in the institute. Doctors will be given special training.
This institute will function under the control of Madras Medical College.
