Better late than never,
Chennai Corporation has planned to launch digitals survey of about 25 arterial
roads in Chennai soon. The civic body recently invited bids from consultancies
desirous of carrying out the survey. The survey was being undertaken based on
the recommendation of the Second Master Plan of Chennai Metropolitan
Development Authority. The roads to be widened include TTK Road, Gandhi
Mandapam Road, Velachery Main Road, Medavakkam Tank Road, Madhavaram High Road,
Kaliamman Koil Street at Koyambedu, Valluvarkottam High Road, Venkatnarayana
Road and Tirumalai Pillai Road in T.Nagar, Purasawalkam High Road, Kilpauk Garden
Road, Paper Mills Road, and Suryanarayana Road in Royapuram.The proposed width
specified for each road varies from 18 metres to 30.5 metres. The consultant
has to provide details, including the land to be acquired or encroachments that
need to be removed. The proposed road width would include provisions for
stormwater drain and footpath, the officials said.It has listed out nearly 120
arterial roads for the purpose. The civic agency proposes to take up road
widening project in a phased manner. The survey would be taken using a total
station instrument, which helps in measuring distance from a particular point.
The consultant would be able to provide a drawing of the surveyed area using
the data, the officials said. The digital survey is expected to be completed in
six months.
