Regarding the plan of introducing pre-paid cards in all 29 toll plazas across the state, the State Traffic Planning Cell (STPC), of Tamil Nadu Police is arranging a meeting with stakeholders.
As the first phase, the pre-paid card has been introduced nearly in 4 toll plazas adjoining Chennai city.
Owing to the shrill traffic density in toll plazas including Uthandi on the ECR; Sriperumpudur on the Bangalore National Highway; Thoraipakkam on the OMR; and Karanodai on the Kolkata Highway, we are in plan of introducing pre-paid toll cards, said S. Rajendran, Additional Director-General of Police, STPC.
People can get the pre-paid toll card at a cost of Rs.100 and it can be recharged at any value further. The farthest left bays of these tolls are solely for vehicles with yellow boards and black letters. Once the vehicle gets entered into the toll, the camera seizes the image of the card and the toll will be getting deducted.
The main agenda of the meeting held between the stakeholder’s and the directors of National Highways of Authority of India from Chennai and Krishnagiri is to talk about the implementation of the pre-paid toll card in cities such as Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Erode, Salem and Thirunelveli.
A prepaid card purchased in Chennai could be utilized even in Kanyakumari and vice versa. In the next phase, this service will extend to a radius of about 100 km for every town.
