Talks are on for a new link road to be constructed for connecting East Coast Road and Rajiv Gandhi Salai, spanning a distance of 1.4 Km. State government would be sanctioning funds for the project.

There are already two existing roads which are almost 12 kms apart. This new link road would be constructed in the middle of the two link roads. It is decided that the new link road would have its starting point at Neelankarai on ECR and it will go on to join the radial road at Thoraipakkam junction.

A whooping Rs. 204 crore  is sanctioned for the project. The public can sure await changes and good news as it has been speculated that the road can scoop out at least 30% of the traffic from the Pallavaram - Thoraipakkam radial road, making the road much less congested. Lakhs of vehicles pass along this and the OMR road every day.

Chennai is therefore all set to see a more balanced and well-distributed traffic network which will relieve the daily agonies of pedestrians and vehicle owners. This initiative by the State Government has been supported and lauded as it was a much-needed reform that people have been awaiting.
