Commissioner said in a press meet here on Thursday that a Survey of all roads,
by a private consultant assigned by the state Government has been completed.
All the roads and the by lanes have been proposed to be upgraded to
international standards. Addressing reporters he said that Tamil Nadu Urban
Road Infrastructure Development Fund would implement the road works. A meeting
of officials from all the departments using the road such as telecom service
providers, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, traffic police and Tamil Nadu Water
Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board was held to ascertain their development plans
for the next 20 years. Separate ducts would be provided for electricity and
telephone cables on both sides of the road. The road, after re-laying, would
not be cut or dug to lay cables and repair water pipelines for five years. The project
is in the second phase of the planning stage with cost estimate, is being
commenced, is expected to be ready in two months and the works is likely to
begin by the end of 2010.
