4 cities including Chennai recorded a temperature of 100 degrees on Friday, 1st August. At the same time, it also rained in some places like Coimbatore.
There have been good rains due to the south-west monsoon in Coimbatore, Nilgiri, and Kanyakumari.
As at 8.00 Am on Friday, 1st August, Coimbatore district Chinnakalar registered a rainfall of 15 cm. Nilgiri district’s Tevala registered 7 cm; Valparai 6 cm, Kudalur Bazaar 5 cm, Pechiparai & Naduvattam 4cm, Pollachi, Ooty, Kuzhithurai, Kulachal, and Thakkalai 2 cm.
Rainfall is expected in the next 2 days in parts of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.
However, the temperature touched beyond 100 in Chennai & 4 other cities. Maximum recorded in Chennai was 101.3 degrees; Madurai & Nagapattinam 101.12 degrees.
This is the highest in Chennai in the last 2 years.
