New regulation for electric train season tickets for better security: Authorised identity required!

A new regulation has been imposed on buying season tickets for electric train travel. This is for better security purpose. Season tickets will be given only on presentation of Railways authorised identity card.

Generally, it is sufficient to show any identity proof to buy season tickets. The counters will issue the season tickets on payment.

Now, this arrangement is changed. A new application form is given for buying season tickets.

This form has to be filled up in complete in all respects for getting the season ticket.

A railway official explained:

In recent time, there have been several untoward incidents during train travel. Recently, there was a double bomb blast in the train arriving at Chennai Central Railway Station. Following this, security was strengthened in all railway stations.

Considering the safety & security of the passengers and to keep essential personal data of all season ticket holders, Railways have introduced this new system for buying season tickets. This will come into effect from this month – August.

Authorised Identity card

Hence, the application has to be filled with all required particulars for buying season tickets. Copies of identity cards authorised by Railways, such as Voter ID, PAN card, Passport, Driving Licence, or the Ids issued for government servants with authorised photographs, students ID cards issued by educational institutions, Aadhar cards, Passbooks of Nationalised banks with photograph have to be attached .

The existing season ticket holders will need to produce authorised ID card while renewing.
