The prices of vegetables rose sky-high in Chennai during the last 1 month. Beans was sold at Rs. 110/- per kg and tomato at Rs. 70/- per kg!
Prices of okra (lady’s finger), flat beans, carrot, and green chillies also went up steeply.
Currently, the prices of vegetables are coming down to an extent.
Large quantities of vegetables from other states like Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh and from other districts of Tamil Nadu have started arriving at the wholesale vegetable market in Koyambedu.
Vegetables are transported from Krishnagiri, Periyapalayam, Thiruvannamalai, Ooty and other districts in large quantities.
This has led to a gradual reduction of prices of the vegetables.
Today’s (6th August) prices of vegetables per kg at Koyambedu:
Small beans (Kothavaraiikkai) Rs. 40/-, Onion Rs. 38/-.
