Chennai to Get First Subversive Metro Rail by December 2015

The foremost underground Metro Rail set up from Egmore to Thirmangalam will soon be accomplished by December 2105.

As per the papers of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the whole stretch of 45 km of the Chennai Metro Rail set up will be functional by August 2016. Of the total 32 stations in the Chennai Metro Rail, 19 will be subversive.

During the end of December, the tunneling work for a stretch of about 9.5 km along the Poonamallee High Road will be finalize, said the officials.

Once the tunneling work is over in four months, we will concentrate more on building the cross passages, laying tracks and finalizing overhead electrical work, to complete it in a year time. As per the plan, the rest of the stretch will be ready by August 2016, a CMRL official said.

Till now, two tunnel boring machines (TBM) have pierced a distance of 948 meters from Nehru Park to Egmore. In the interim, many TBMs are tunneling the earth at several sites including Pachaippa’s college to Nehru Park, Shenoy Nagar and Kilpauk stations, Kilpauk to Shenoy Nagar station and Shenoy Nagar to Thirmangalam.

According to the plan, the phase I of the Chennai Metro Rail project had to be accomplishing by 2015, but there has been a year’s holdup in the formation so far.

Trivial delays are common in all infrastructure projects. Owing to the economic hindrance, a few outworkers have been concerned, said the official.
