Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa announced in the Legislative Assembly that the facility for high-speed broadband services and other internet related services at lower rates would be made with the operators running Arasu Cable TV.
As per the Tamil Nadu Legislative Act 118, the CM read a report:
Tamil Nadu State Data Centre has been proving all computer related services for Departments of Commerce and Health, Corporation, Prohibition, Metro rail Project, and other projects.
With all other departments also gearing up for offering improved computer services, the current infrastructure of the data Centre is not adequate.
Hence, there is a plan to construct a 40-storeyed building in an area covering 5000 sq ft for Tamil Nadu Data Centre at a cost Rs. 40 Crores to facilitate better infrastructure to take care of the growing demand in their services. Their services are essential in all departments.
It is a challenge to face natural disasters such as Earthquakes and floods. Thus, there should be a separate ‘Natural Disaster relief Centre’ located in Chennai. To enable fast data transfer which would be essential to tackle natural disaster, a’ New Line Disaster recovery Centre is planned in an area covering 1250 sq ft at a cost of Rs. 5 Crores will be constructed.
Tamil Nadu has given the facility of e-mails for different departments under the domain ‘
tn.gov.in’. Keeping the data security in mind, it has become essential to reorganize the current mailing system and the mail addresses. Tamil Nadu data Centre will form a government e-mail transactions system at a cost of Rs. 1 Crore to enable high-speed, safe, and reliable communication.
Over 20 lakhs laptop computer systems have been distributed to the students. Following this, it is imperative to provide efficient data service at affordable lower rates to encourage the students to learn more and their creativity. To facilitate this, a new ‘web hosting services’ with cloud competing & high-speed downloading & uploading facilities will be formed at a cost of Rs. 50 Lakhs.
To facilitate sharing of the history of Tamil Language, its culture, and literature a separate web services for Tamil language will be formed. The first stage will be set up at a cost of Rs. 20 Lakhs.
The State Government’s Arasu Cable TV is providing high quality cable TV service in interior ares through cable TV operators at a cheaper cost of Rs. 70 per month.
With the help of this service, an additional facility to provide high-speed broadband services and other internet-related services at a lower rates are planned after obtbtaining the requisite licences.
