A programme was organized to mark fifth year of remembering PKS, as the
versatile genius was popularly known, by PKS Math Education and Research at the
Institute of Mathematical Sciences here on Saturday.
It was function in which Music and dance met the world of mathematics. Musician
M. Vasanthalakshmi lighted lamp in commemoration of P.K. Srinivasan,
mathematician. P.K. Srinivasan was the first biographer of the legendary
mathematician S. Ramanujan .He was also the founder-member of the Association
of Mathematics Teachers of India and instrumental in the Central Board of
Secondary Education making mathematics laboratories mandatory in schools all
over the country. He adapted innovative way to teach Mathematic to give student
good learning experience and give good feel of Mathematics.
“Every equation has a story to tell, and every dance has a message to
convey. We need to bring in dance, music and games into the world of
mathematics to rescue children of every generation caught in math-phobia.
Practice is important, but let it come after understanding,” said Nirmala
Raman, daughter of the mathematician.
A true Gandhian he had been in his life, PKS organised expositions for
children and State-level conferences on ‘kolam` and mathematics.
