Velankanni festival from today

Velankanni, a tiny place in Nagapattinam district, is all set to celebrate the 10-day annual festival from Friday.
 
Most Rev. Devadass Ambrose (Thanjavur) will hoist a blessed church flag on Friday evening. Special mass will be conducted in Tamil, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and Konkani. On September 7, Jebamalai in Tamil, Matha Mantrattu, Navanal prayer and special mass will be organised. On the same day, Arockiya Matha, will be taken in procession on an illuminated car on sea shore road and Ariya Nattu Street.
 
On September 8, Rev. Dr. Ambross will organise a ‘Holy Mass’ at ‘morning star church.’ The festival will come to an end on the same day with the lowering of the church flag.
 
Special buses will be operated from Friday to September 10 round the clock to Velankanni. Similarly, special trains from Vascodoma, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Chennai, Tirunelveli and Tiruchi will be operated for the benefit of devotees.
