The fares for omnibus travel have been increased from yesterday. The travelling public is reeling under this shock.

For example, the omnibus fare from Chennai to Nagercoil is Rs, 1500/-.

More than 1000 omnibuses are operating throughout Tamil Nadu. Omnibuses also operate in the neighbouring states Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala & Pondicherry.

The government has permitted the private omnibus operate to fix their own fares.

All India Omnibus Owners’ Association meeting was conducted on 26th August in Koyambedu.

In view of the coming festivals like Deepavali, tt was decided unanimously to raise the fare by 10% for ordinary buses and by 20% for the omnibuses.

This came into effect from yesterday, 1st September.

This has shocked the travelling public! They feel that fares are raised during every festive season. They announce 10 to 20% rise but actually charge up to 50%.  Ticket for Nagercoil which was Rs. 800/- is now Rs. 1500/-. Transport officials also do not take any action. The public expect the government to intervene & take corrective action!
