Backoff - wide-spreading malware in India

Indian cyberspace has identified a new deadly malware, ‘Backoff’. It is said to be an exe file that rooms in computers with Windows Operating System. It uses all applications running in the background of computer and hacks details of credit or debit cards, user id, passwords, etc.

The malware is associated with third party applications which are developed by Windows Software Developer. As of now, the latest version of the malware identified is Backoff.exe 1.0 which is now in use on Windows 7 computers. The malware has 1 star as popularity rating and its security rating is ‘Unknown’.

It is widely identified that several variants of the malware target mainly the Point of Sale (POS). It mainly affects computers with Windows operating system. The malware looks out for desktops with remote desktop applications installed in it. It then infects the system with POS malware and grabs details like credit or debit card holder’s name, account number, expiry date of cards, CVV number, etc.
