The secretary of the Department of Technology, Mr. T. K. Ramachandran informed that internet services would be made available through Arasu Cable TV network in 1 or 2 months.
A conference on Digital Technology was conducted on Thursday, 4th September, in Chennai.
There are plans to provide high-speed broadband internet and other internet-related services through cable operators on Arasu Cable TV networks. As a first step, the company, ‘Railtel’, has come forward to provide internet services.
Presently, tests are being conducted at Vellore. It is expected that internet services will be gradually introduced throughout the state in 1 or 2 months.
Cable operators interested in including internet services will be invited and trained on internet services.
To avail the internet service through Arasu Cable TV network, the user needs to buy a modem only.
So far, the charges for the internet service provision have not been decided.
