The people who plan to visit their native places on the occasion of Deepavali take recourse to the bus journey if train tickets are not available.
The state government is planning to run special buses during this festival season (Deepavali, Pongal, etc) where the ticket fares are far less than the omnibus fares.
The reservation for booking for express buses (with Deepavali on 22nd October) commenced on 17th August. Though it was rather dull in the first few days, booking picked up subsequently especially during last week.
The public prefer these express for long distance travel buses as the omnibus bus fares are exorbitantly high.
All buses starting from Koyambedu Bus terminus starting on 19th, 20th, & 21st October have all been booked full.
No tickets are available for Southern places like Madurai, Tuticorin, Thirunelveli, Nagercoil, and Kanyakumari.
Again, no tickets are available for travelling to Kumbakonam, Tanjore, Thiruvarur, Nagappattinam, and Mannarkudi.
Very few seats are available for very few routes.
As the regular buses are already filled, the state government is planning to run additional buses. Some special buses are also planned.
