The Tamil Nadu State Information Commission has come up with a new facility for its applicants seeking information. Those who seek for info under the Right to Information Act will now be able to track their appeals.
This system in which details will be shared with the RTI applicants through SMS is set for launch by the end of this month. Applicants will receive an SMS with their case number and date of hearing. As of now, these updates are sent to the applicants by post.
It is however to be noted that the facility can be availed only if the applicant has given an active mobile number and chooses the specific facility.
The commission had in-detail discussion with Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot), National Informatics Centre (NIC) and telecom service providers like BSNL. New software will soon be developed and messaging services will be integrated with it.
As per this new plan, RTI petitioners will receive 3 text messages at varied times:
1. First message will be received at the time of case number generation
2. Second message will be received when the case is posted for hearing
3. The third message will be received when the case is disposed
