Walkie-talkies for Chennai Corporation engineers, sanitary inspectors and others

The Chennai Corporation last year body passed a resolution at the council meeting to buy 800 walkie-talkie sets and set up a separate frequency for internal communication. The walkie-talkies has been acquired at a cost   of Rs 1.70 crore. The sets would work on two frequencies.
 
It may be recalled that the Chennai Corporation distributed smartphones, costing Rs 7,000 each, to 200 conservancy inspectors last year.
