With the onset of south-west monsoon and expected rains, it has become immediately essential to repair and maintain all transformers in good condition for unaffected power supply.
There are 13 coastal districts in Tamil Nadu – Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagai, Thiruvarur, Tanjore, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thuticorin, Thirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.
Each district has many villages situated in the coastal area. Electric Power for these villages is distributed through electric poles & transformers. During the rainy seasons, the poles tend to fall. This affects power supply.
During the ‘Thane’ storm, most of the poles & transformers in Cuddalore & Villupuram were dislodged and power supply was severely affected.
With this experience, efforts are to be taken for safe-guarding continuity of electric power during the coming monsoon season. Even the residents in these areas have been demanding this.
