The city police will step up monitoring by one more score with the launch of a new patrol dedicated to curbing chain snatching and burglaries.
The Red Patrol comprises a total of 15 white-and-red SUVs that have been stationed in different parts of the city and will keep a watch on their jurisdictions throughout the day.
The 15 localities covered include Mylapore, Nungambakkam, Kilpauk, Selaiyur, Madipakkam, Washermanpet, Madhavaram, Ambattur, Anna Nagar and Tirumangalam. Officers said a study had shown that incidents of chain-snatching were the highest in these areas.
The patrol vehicles will go around the locality but focus on junctions. The team comprises a sub-inspector, an armed reserve personnel and a driver. There will be two shifts, said a senior officer.
