Private schools have come up complaining the state government for its failure to be unable to reimburse the money as a fee waiver for 25 per cent students admitted with them under Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act for the past 3 years.
According to the RTE act, all schools in Tamil Nadu allotted 25 per cent of their seats for students three years ago. Speaking about this, K.R. Nandakumar, the secretary of Tamil Nadu nursery, primary, matriculation and higher secondary schools association said that the schools have not yet received any repay towards admission of students in LKG, class 1 to 6 of their schools.
He also questions the government asking why the government cannot keep up their words and reimburse the funds if they really want to provide free education to 25 per cent students under RTE Act. If the same keeps continuing, we will have to face huge financial liabilities and will be forced to shut down our institutions, he cautioned.
Speaking to the school education secretary, D.Sabitha, she says 64 per cent of fee waiver has to be provided to the state government by the Union government which in turn will be reimbursed to the schools. However, the Union government has not yet released funds for the academic year 2013-14.
