Yes, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras is ready to help out the city corporation in recycling of construction debris into bricks and few other useful materials.
Recently, on Thursday, K N Satynarayana, a professor of Civil Engineering at IIT-M presented in front of corporation officials a project on recycling and management of construction and demolition debris.
One of the corporation officials say they corporation is looking out to dispose construction debris scientifically with the technical support of IIT-M.
Further, there are also plans to reduce dumping of debris in roadsides or water bodies. Only few identified places by the corporation will be available for dumping waste materials, said an official.
According to sources from the IIT, it will help out the civic body in regulatory mechanism and techniques of demolition waste. Over 1100 tonnes of construction waste are generated in the city every day. Most of this is taken to dump yards at Kodungaiyur and Perungudi.
