On account of Gandhi Jayanthi, the government has ordered closure of all Indian-Made Foreign Liquor retail shops run by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), on October 2.
Bars attached to the shops and those in star and non-star hotels will also remain closed.
The Chennai Collector, in a release, has warned that legal action would be initiated against salesmen and supervisors of TASMAC shops in case of violation of the order. Action, including suspension and cancellation of licence, would be taken if TASMAC or private bars were found open or liquor sale was carried out on Gandhi Jayanthi, she said.
